laurel berries

Hi there, I was wondering whether it would be ok to cook with laurel berries as you would with cedar, juniper berries etc. I was thinking maybe using them in a brine or in a sauce and then discarding them. I just recently cut some from a tree near by and realized that they have the most wonderful aroma; scent. I can also say that it very much resembles the juniper scent. I live in athens, Greece if that makes any difference in the type of berry regionally. Thank you!

Re: Can I Cook with Laurel Berries

I am not totally familiar with laurel berries or at least with the exact berries you are referring to. If the berries come from a laurel bush (which is also referred to as a cherry laurel), they are apparently poisonous.

The laurel tree, which is where bay leaves come from, is not the same as a laurel bush.

To be safe, I would recommend doing a bit more research before trying to use them in your cooking. Cheers!
