Eggnog recipe

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has a great eggnog recipe they've used before. I've found a couple online, but not having ever made eggnog, I'm not sure how to judge their quality.

I'd like to make it for a family Christmas party on the weekend.

Thanks!

Madame Benoit Egg Nog Recipe

From Madame Benoit Cooks at Home: Treasured recipes from Canada's best-loved cook (an excellent cook book!)
6 egg yolks, 1 c. maple syrup, 1 c. rum, 1 c. grand marnier, grated rind of 1 orange, 1/2 c. brandy, 6 c. milk, 1 vanilla bean, 3 c. cream, 6 egg whites beaten stiff. serves 20
- beat yolks and syrup w beater and while still beating add rum, g.marnier and brandy. chill 2 hours. Add vanilla bean to milk and let stand for same time. After 2 hours, remove vanilla bean and while stirring, add milk to yolk mix. Whip cream and fold in. Fold in beaten whites. Will stay perfect for 12 to 24 hours. Sprinkle with fresh ground nutmeg to serve. Makes a wonderful desert. As you can see "one glass will do it, 2 is over the top!" Happy Holidays.

Yum!

Thanks for that recipe, that sounds incredible! Best one I've seen so far. Happy Holidays to you!

Thanks

I think I will try this - I don't believe I have ever had "real" egg nog before. (I will assume the stuff out of the carton in the store doesn't count;)

Re: Store Bough EggNog

I have to say ever since I left an "eggnog latte" on the counter top for a few hours and it solidified...honestly I could hold the cup upside down and nothing came out, I have not touched the store bought stuff.

I am not sure exactly how it's made or if it is even bad for me, but I figured if it looks like that in my cup, I can only imagine what it would look like in my body :-)

I might just give this eggnog recipe a try as well, I have also never made the real stuff. Thanks for the recipe!

eggs for egg nog

For years we have been using regular eggs in our raw egg recipes without any worries because we get them from a farmer who REALLY lets his chickens be cage-free. The only worries come if chickens are unhealthily raised or processed. The yolks are almost bright orange and according to my doctor, not to worry! I realize this isn't helpful information if you can't be assured of highest quality eggs and that this is an old discussion. We will be trying this!

RE: Rind of Orange

Yes, by the order in the list of ingredients above, I would assume that the orange rind is added to the liquor/egg mixture to infuse its flavor into that. Cheers!
