Le Creuset grill/griddle

I am looking to buy the large reversible le creuset grill/griddle. Any reviews good or bad. i looked on google, but decided to ask this question here, since the Rouxbe staff and the people using this site are all knowledgeble. I want to get away from using non-stick and I felt that even though this might be a little pricey, it will be a good investment in the long run. Thanks.

Re: Le Creuset Grill or Griddle

I have always been happy with my cookware from Le Creuset. I personally don't own one of their flat grills but I imagine they are just as durable and reliable. If you are still not sure you could always ask them what their return policy is.

Here is a link to one of the large Le Creuset grills in case you need it.

Good luck, let us know what you decide and if you are happy or not with whatever you decided to buy. Cheers!

Le Creuset Giant Griddle

I've got one of these and have had it for about 3 years now. They're great and it took quite a few uses to get a nice patina (ie: non stick coating, kind like a seasoning a wok) on it but now that its there it makes the best steaks and grilled veg and fish.

I only really use the grill side and haven't really ever used the flat side although I'm sure one day, I'll get round to making (and affording) a big beef wellington and so i'll need the flat side to sear off the meat.

My only comments are

1) the griddle lines are spaced particularly tight together. More so than what you'd find on their other smaller grills. Not sure why that is.

2) it is quite heavy and doesnt have a heatproof handle so if you've got limited hob/stove space, you might want to think carefully if its the right one for you what you want to cook on it and the volumes that you'll be cooking.

3) Griddles can create a smell so make sure you have adequate ventilation or are happy waking up the next morning with the house smelling of the previous nights meal.

4) I bought this because I wanted to have a really good steak during winter time and not have to wait until the weather improved so I could have a BBQ outside. It makes beautiful steaks with those characteristic grill lines and that makes it all worth it. Especially on a Friday night when you've had a big week, you buy the best steak you can and you grill it to have with a nice bottle of red.

In any event, I am very happy that I bought it and I would recommend it to any friend of mine who was thinking of buying one.

An Alternative

I use a Lodge cast iron reversible griddle and have been very happy with it. I use the single burner model but there is a double burner model also.

i also use the lodge single burner model. I use it all the time. Makes great paninis . I have the two burner reversable but never bother getting it out. to heavy and don't like how it sits on my ceramic cook top.
