Selecting a Kitchen Knife Set

Lesson Goals

Kitchen knives are one of the most important tools in cooking. This lesson will introduce you to the key knives you need to have in your culinary knife set, what they are used for in the kitchen and some of the key characteristics to look for when selecting the best kitchen knives.

This cooking school lesson will also highlight the important things to look for when buying one of the most important knives, the chef’s knife.

At the end of this cooking school lesson, you will be able to:

  • describe the components of a basic knife set
  • list the parts of a chef’s knife
  • describe the characteristics of the European, Japanese, Granton and Santoku chef’s knives
  • learn what to look for when buying a chef’s knife
