Not very good at these, but here I go!
Hi, I'm Riley. I'm a 13 year old with a passion. Not a usual one, like the guitar, or skateboarding. My passion is cooking. But I don't just love food. I love understanding food, changing it, making it better, twisting it in ways nobody has before.
I started with my interest in cooking at 5 or 6, doing simple kitchen tasks for my Mom, or Grandmothers, and such. Things like fetching vegetables, or tasting (my fav job as a kid), or even throwing things away. I did this because it was fun for me to discover all the different kinds of fruit, or pie crust, or different ways to chop onions. So, I usually stuck around whenever anyone was in the kitchen.
Over time, jobs got more intricate. At 8, I used to stand on a stool and cook eggs on the stove. I could mix and knead doughs, and boil water, and fill tarts. A milestone was at 9. Just a few months before my birthday, I was gifted with my first knife. Not to keep, but the first time I had been allowed to use one.
Although I could have done more even then, I kept things simple, salads, jarred tomato sauces, cookies. But recently, maybe the last few months, I have expanded my interest. Dishes got more complex, French styling was added to my repertoire, and then Greek and Spanish, and even a bit of Croatian.
Eventually, I purchased a set of 3 knives, and have been adding ever since. I have all sorts of spoons, knives, towels, but I still don't have everything, so I keep collecting. Another big milestone was my first set of cookware, July 10, 2 weeks before my birthday.
I have been cooking everything I eat ever since, and I believe Rouxbe s a big part of my flourishing, since I discovered it shortly after my interest in cooking increased.
-Keep cooking
