I grew up with a mother who had an Austrian father, a Russian mother and who grew up in Shanghai, China and later moved to Germany and Austria. She married an American from Oklahoma who was in Vienna after the war and came to the U.S. as a war bride. She had to learn the Southern-style cooking to keep my father happy, but otherwise, we ate a huge variety of cuisines. My siblings and I all love to cook, and my sister and I often buy each other the same cookbook. I'm also in an international cooking club and love exploring different cuisines. I do little baking other than bread. I'm not into sweets, more savory. My weakest area is cooking fish.
