The short answer is that Rouxbe is NOT a recipe site. Rouxbe (pronounced 'roo-bee') is an online cooking school that teaches the skills, techniques and cooking methods behind great recipes. We are a complement to your favorite recipe resource - not a replacement.
The most important thing to understand when looking at any recipe is that it is actually just a set of step-by-step technique instructions intended to produce a desired outcome (a great dish). What most tend for forget though, is that it’s not the recipe that works, it’s the cook that works (or doesn’t). Cooking success depends on how well you can mix, stir, sear, deglaze, sauté, chiffonade, sweat, etc. So, just like in professional cooking schools, this is where we focus our efforts. We teach cooks to become great 'executors' of recipes (watch tour video).
The curated recipes on Rouxbe represent some of the best practice recipes we have found on the web, along with a direct link to each third-party recipe site or blog. That's right, we send our students offsite to our affiliate and curating partners - partners that do an amazing job of creating some of the best recipes out there. We provide related, instructional videos which highlight some, if not all, of the skills and techniques needed to be able to execute each recipe.
Keep in mind that we do not link to just ANY recipe. Only a very small percentage of the content that is submitted to Rouxbe will be approved. Every curated recipe on Rouxbe has been carefully reviewed by Rouxbe Chefs to ensure that it meets our high standards, before it appears in our curated gallery. We then ask our students to keep it real by testing and rating all curated recipe content against our success meter to ensure that we are doing our job by driving exceptional cooking results.
Rouxbe Chefs and our top students are continually searching the web for the best practice recipe content. Once a great match is identified, we align it with skill & technique video support before opening it up to our student community (view example here).
If you think you have a delicious recipe (or recipes) that match our cooking school content, please feel free to submit your recipe URL for consideration.
Review our submissions guidelines and process.
