Question:

What is a good method for keeping food warm, both before serving, during a meal and warming the plates?

— Sylvia Edwards

Answer:

So let's see before serving during a meal and warming the plates. Usually the way that I typically I'm going to do it is in an oven, you know, so I will actually warm my plates in the oven and then I might actually take a towel and microwave it with a little bit of hot water and then put that towel around the plates as well. Keep it really warm which is kind of nice. It's one of the few things actually use a microwave for You know to be able to keep the plates kind of warm before serving, which is I think essential if you're especially if you're trying to keep food warm as having a hot plate to be able to put it on so it can keep the food warm as well too, you know before serving the food typically covering the food. So it doesn't you lose any of the moisture out of the food and putting in the oven is really the Surefire way that I'm going to be holding it they make you know, you can make like they make hot plates with covers and stuff too. So if you've already made it in something they like Hotel pay in size hot plates are totally fine to be able to keep those things warm. So you can you know plate them basically right before serving as well. But if you have a compiled play the charity want any you are serving say your appetizer, you know, first put the essential Parts on the plate keep them in the oven on a warm setting very low, of course, so you're not over cooking everything. And then you can add your final kind of garnish right before serving and still keep it hot. But hot plate or a warm plate definitely a good start with all those as well and then, you know keeping the food and the oven typically covered is probably a great way to be able to just keep them warm before serving as well. Now if you're looking at bigger scale on something like that, they definitely make equipment to be able to do those where they have, you know, big plate warmers that you can take them out, which is really nice. If you're doing service to be able to have that and there are it's like essentially like a cooler that you can put food into so like I do a lot of catering and I have something that we call a hot box which is basically a thing that can fit Hotel bands in it and ride above each other and it works like a cooler but the opposite where it keeps hot and you can basically just cover you either with foil or with a lid slide those into this cooler and it's kind of racked up. They make electric versions of those two to be able to keep things warm too and they make professional versions usually In a building as well, but for home use just an oven, you know with aluminum foil over the top should work just fine.
