Question:

My gas oven has the option to be used as a regular oven or a convection oven. Are there advantages to using one over the other?

Answer:

You're assuming that the convection mode works correctly and that's something you're going to want to check out if you haven't already used it by doing a test bake. then the convection bake is going to happen faster and it's likely going to be higher. I mean if we're talking about a cake, it might be a little bit loftier. So my choice is always to use the convection bake mode when it's available to you.
