Question:

Can you recommend some good knives to use for chopping vegetables?

— Jackie Sarlitt

Answer:

This is another one of those, uh, questions where, um, it really depends on, uh, you and, uh, your, your budget and, uh, sort of, uh, your, your comfort, you know, with your arm strength and, and other factors. But, um, uh, in other words, you can really, uh, buy in terms of price point knives that run the spectrum, right from, uh, you know, uh, uh, comparatively affordable, I think for a lot of people, uh, to these, uh, handmade, uh, bespoke, uh, cutlery, uh, items that, um, can be several hundred dollars per knife or more. And, um, but I will say that, you know, one place to start, okay, in terms of consideration is, uh, the Victorian KN company, uh, which is the company that makes, uh, the Swiss Army knives. And, uh, they have some, uh, cutlery in, in different lines that they make. But, uh, one is called fx, F I B R O X, and that particular line I find to be a good value, okay? There's nothing fancy about 'em, okay? Uh, the blades are made of stamped steel, and the handles are made from molded rubber. All right? Um, you know, I still use these on, on on many occasions and, um, you know, my professional friends will sometimes ger me and, and poke me and make fun of me because I have these cheapo knives that I use. Um, and I've got other knives too, but, but if I'm doing some catering or something and then clunking around with stuff, um, I'm probably not gonna use my best knives. Um, but, um, uh, anyway, um, the, the point is that, uh, they provide, in my opinion, a good value. Okay? Uh, they are, uh, hard enough the, the knives that the blade that is, that they'll maintain a cutting edge for a reasonably long period of time. And, uh, the metal is soft enough that they're pretty easy to sharpen. So in terms of maintenance, they're, uh, pretty easy. And, um, they're affordable. And, uh, also, several years ago, uh, consumer reports rated them as a Best Buy, which I thought was pretty cool. And, uh, anyway, that's gonna be a starting point in my opinion, but there are other fine, uh, knives to use as well. Okay. Thank you. All right.
