Question:
How long do fresh onions last? Should I leave out on the counter or refrigerate them?
— Jackie Sarlitt
Answer:
Fresh onions can last to sometimes just a matter of days in a hot, humid environment, uh, or months if it's gonna be a cool and dry environment. And so you think about where you live, you know, how the inside of your home, or your kitchen or your pantry is, and then make the decision on whether that needs to go, you know, whether it's an onion or something else, whether that needs to go in the fridge, uh, or it can sit out for a little bit longer if, if I'm gonna get to it, um, in two or three days or in another couple of weeks. Um, and then, uh, move forward from there, making adjustments along the way, right? Life is all about adjustments and developing best practices for our own situation. And certainly cooking and food handling is no different. Okay? And, uh, so experiment, uh, take notes. I, I take notes. I always recommend that my students take notes, um, so that you can, uh, compare results and, uh, fine tune your process for your own situation. Thank you.
