Question:

I've been very frustrated trying to source great quality (ideally organic) local produce, cheeses, meats and fish in an area that has a deep love affair with fast food. Any ideas how to find products not in stores or at the farmers market?

— Donna Carpentier

Answer:

Yeah, I mean there's there's a number of online options more and more. So sort of the grocery delivery box is becoming a thing. I have to say that I am not actually aware of I couldn't give you the best recommendation for one because I don't use them because I live on my own farm and I grow everything I want to basically but check out the chefs Garden is a really great one they're purveyor and they sell to a lot of the very top restaurants and they grow Boutique fun. sheffy vegetables But look up on line CSA community supported agriculture. So that is a method by which you invest in basically the season ahead of time you guarantee a farmer X number of dollars per week and they guarantee you a box of whatever they can deliver. And in this way, it's very good for the farmer because it gives them direct access to you the consumer without the cost in the expense and the time expenditure of having to go to a farmer's market and wait for you to come to them in this way. They know exactly how many people are signed up. It takes a lot of the risk out of the farming and it's it's just great all the way around. So even in an area that might not support farmers markets due to the lack of sort of mass interest. I'm sure that there are farmers doing good things near you and they're interested in finding you so online community supported agriculture. for Meats And a butcher box does a nice job with sourcing some ethical stuff look for. Not geez man, honey. I don't think about meat that often. So yeah. For seafood. There's a great company called true Finn seafood and they operate here out of the Gulf of Maine. They do incredible quality products. Yeah, there's a number of online search. So C2 table is another one that does direct consumer fishing that I would recommend good friends. So there you go, but I appreciate and understand your frustration with it. But so you're dedicate. I admire your dedication towards getting it right. So thanks for all you do because without you those markets are never gonna grow in those farmers markets are never going to happen and then all the people that only know fast food are never going to get access to really great quality food. So it starts with you you are on a mission to improve your entire community and I appreciate that.
