Question:

What do you think is overall the biggest stumbling block to have a purposeful kitchen?

— Roxanne Packham

Answer:

I'm imagining there's several ways I can interpret purposeful and I love that you're a designer and that people want that picture perfect kitchen look. And I think you can have both a functional kitchen with the triangle, right? The sink and the stove and the fridge. I'm sure you can do that in your sleep with a purposeful kitchen. It really is about the four zones that I had talked about. It's how, and that's not in so much as the design, um, of the kitchen. It's really how you set up the kitchen. Now, the purposeful kitchen, I'm imagining these aren't for teaching kitchens. If they were for teaching kitchens, you would need to make sure that the lighting was great and that you could videotape and all of that. Um, if you have a specific question I didn't answer, please just reach out again and I'll try and answer that. Um, but a purposeful kitchen is really you sitting down asking your client what are their biggest needs? If they could imagine a kitchen, what is it they would love to see? What? And then when they say, oh, I want this stove that just say, how do you wanna feel when you're sitting down to eat a meal? And try and get to them through food?
