Question:
Is full fat coconut milk healthy even though the saturated fat content is so high?
— Julie Masena
Answer:
So that is one of those things that um, you know, the word healthy kind of depends on what you're looking at full fat coconut milk just to start full fat coconut milk versus lower fat coconut milk. What they do is just add water to full fat coconut milk to make it, you know a light coconut milk. So I typically never buy a light coconut milk because you can just buy the one you just buying water with stuff added into it. So if I want to, you know, make it a lighter consistency, I'll add water to it. Now the real answer to this is in moderation, right? So coconut milk is definitely high fat. So just like, you know an oils a lot of people are avoiding oils because of the high fat or high calorie content. Now, I'm not saying you have to completely go without the coconut milk or that it's bad for you in any way it's just because it is concentrated fat it can add on quickly. So you definitely want to see how much your you know using so if I'm making a dish like last night, I made a curry dish that had coconut in it as well and instead of using two cans of coconut milk. I just use the one can and they did another can basically emptied the coconut and then fill the can again with water to be able to thin it out to be able to make it a light coconut milk good as well. So that way I'm just getting the fat from the one can of coconut instead of two cans of coconut as well. So again, in moderation great, you just don't want to be having it for like every meal I would say so I hope that helps.
