Question:

I have a recipe that requires Togarashi spice (Japanese) and it is, so far for me, impossible to find it in a grocery store. Is there anyway i could make my own blend - of course, i don't have a recipe, are you able to provide one ?

— Linda L.

Answer:

Yes, I can provide you one of these so torioshi and not sure if I'm pronouncing that correctly is actually a great blend. You know, it's I think it's traditionally a Japanese Chili Pepper. But basically what it is is like a seaweed sesame seeds some sort of like citrus like dried orange or tangerine and then black pepper red chili flakes. It's amazingly good. It is also a little hard to find unless you live near a Japanese grocery store. So a lot of us don't live near Japanese grocery stores. So there's this one from food 52 that's actually super simple to make I've even seen a recipe for this on like McCormicks and stuff. So the hardest ingredients probably finding the Dehydrated orange, but you can find like if McCormick's makes on you can probably find a lot of different varieties of it too. So that's what I would recommend is making your own. It's probably going to be better than a store-bought one that's been sitting there for a number of months anyways. So, um, you know, if you have the ability to dehydrate some oranges might be kind of fun to be able to do that with and then you can just use Nori sheets as well. So Nori sheets a little dried, you know, orange peel and then you're you're spices. Of course your Chili Peppers your black peppers a little bit of salt. I can't remember what else is in there missing sesame seed I think is the the last ingredient so it's a great great way to be able to go with that. So happy cooking. That sounds like it's gonna be fun
