Question:

Do towers garden plants produce the same quality of nutrients as one grown in dirt or found in stores?

— Vickie Thatcher

Answer:

Yes, actually they do. I used to work for a foundation that gave away tower gardens called Whole Kids Foundation. Um, and we gave gardens to schools. Uh, it was a great foundation, still is in existence today. It's under an arm of Whole Foods markets. Um, and tower gardens are wonderful because, uh, you can grow them indoor and under lights, uh, you know, if you're in the winter, um, if they're not near a Sun source. But, um, you can grow them inside and get wonderful, wonderful produce off of them that, uh, you know, is a great way to be able to show kids how, uh, to grow vegetables. But also just a great source to be able to get, um, different, you know, varieties of plants, um, even off season, um, just by growing them in the tower garden versus, uh, outside. Now typically tower gardens are using kind of, um, it's like a plug that kind of goes into it. Some of them have like a nutrient soil kind of thing that goes with them, but typically the water that is circulating through the towers has nutrients that have been added to those, and those nutrients are what the plants are. They're getting the water, they're getting those nutrients to be able to pull in there as well. So you'll see that most, um, you know, most tower gardens will come with a certain type of nutrient additive that they like to be able to put in with those plants. Now different ones have different proprietary blends, um, but the more you research tower gardens and maintenance and ways to be able to keep your plants going, you'll find that everybody has a their own kind of unique take on that. But they absolutely incorporate nutrients into those. So, um, you, you will get the same amount of nutrients and you'll get the same amount of vitamins as one that you would find in a store. Um, and you'll get a little bit, uh, cleaner flavor than you would in the ground sometimes. 'cause the ground can sometimes affect other things, you know? So, um, that's one of the great things about planting in the garden, you know, in, in the soil. But also, you know, if you're looking for a consistent plant in the tower garden, that's a great way to be able to do that.
