Question:
A group of us are making WFPB meals for a friend with stage three colon cancer. Any recipe ideas without cruciferous/legumes that are easy on the gut and could be enjoyable?
— Betsy Harvey
Answer:
Uh, you know, generally speaking, if you're looking at, uh, uh, just various categories of, of foods, um, it could be juices or smoothies, it could be soups and stews, um, you know, types of oatmeal preparations and salads and, and, and many, many more, uh, possibilities, uh, come to mind. Um, I, I don't have recipes to share with you today, but I'm, but, you know, we're empowering you to cook and to be creative. Um, so I wanna, uh, have a general conversation around food categories, okay? To get you thinking about what you might either remove from a recipe that you're familiar with, or that you can otherwise bring together to create something anew. Um, now, uh, just underneath your question here is a link to a, uh, book called Beat, uh, cancer Kitchen, I think it's called. Let me, uh, uh, yeah. Beet Cancer Kitchen, um, colon, uh, decidedly Simple Plant-based Anti-Cancer Recipes. Okay. Um, this book was suggested to me by my colleague, uh, and your, uh, instructor, chef Char. Uh, and, uh, chef Char told me that the author of this book is a stage three colon cancer survivor. And, uh, so this might be a great place to start, uh, for your friend and for all of your friends who are cooking. And, um, you know, just a quick look at this book, uh, shows an extensive lineup of, uh, recipe ideas, and you're, you'll definitely find something that will meet your no cruciferous veggie and, and no legume requirements.
