Question:
What advice do you have for students to get the most out of their online culinary education?
— Jimmy Luong
Answer:
Well, one might think that I was a preschooler. Uh, my grandparents owned a restaurant, uh, like many Italian restaurants of yesteryear, our family lived on the second floor of, in a beautiful Victorian house, uh, that is now a historical McDonald's of all places. And two summers ago, I got to visit the McDonald's and go to the place that was my bedroom. And it was a very enriching thing. But I spent a lot of time watching my grandparents, uh, who were Italian immigrants who ran this business. And then, uh, I've always been interested in food and I worked at Whole Foods Market for 10 years where I did things like make lunch for SEL and John and Billie Jean King and Serena Williams and lots of other people, and always sort of pinching myself that this was my life. And when I left Whole Foods Market, I had known about Rouxbe and I decided that I was going to make it, um, my next career in my life. And when I finished, I, um, did some volunteer work so that I would sort of, as I say, get your name out there. And the first thing that I did after graduating from Rouxbe on May 2nd was on May 15th of the same month, I cooked dinner for Dr. T Colon Campbell and his son and the crew from the movie Plant Pure Nation.
