Question:
My stainless steel pans (calphalon), and skillets seem to be “staining”, showing ring level where red rice was cooked or I overheated pan before cooking. Are my pans unhealthy?
— Lynda Essex
Answer:
So I know that brand well and it's pr if it's a stainless steel, you should be doing pretty good. Now the staining process, I know where you're talking about, it's like the little ring that comes around the top of the pan where your water level started out. And quite honestly, it's probably just putting a lot of elbow grease into cleaning that out a little bit. Um, I don't think he overheated the pan before cooking, um, but it might be a little bit from that, but it doesn't sound like your pans are unhealthy. Um, you know, uh, uh, that will happen around the top ring of pans and I have like very expensive steel pans that'll do the exact same thing. And mostly it's just, uh, giving it a, putting a lot of elbow grease grease in to be able to get all of that off. Um, but that's not an unhealthy thing at all. That's just kind of the, the acidity or whatever it is. It's just going around that top. Um, but just using a good dish soap to be able to get that out, it should be able to take that ring right off of your pan and don't worry about the unhealthiness of it. 'cause if you're using a stainless steel pan just like that, you should be just fine.
