Question:
If you have to use canned beans, will washing them off thoroughly help get rid of a good amount of the sodium or is there still a lot left on them?
— Sandra Kost
Answer:
Yeah, so what happens is those, uh, the sodium actually gets absorbed into the beans on those Sandra, so, um, try to look for a can that says no salt added. There are a lot of varieties out there. I know Eden makes one. I know 3 6 5 makes one. Um, there are a couple that you can find out there that have a no salt added. So if you're trying, if you're buying beans, you're trying to avoid sodium, definitely go for the no salt added bean variety. Um, if you wash 'em off, it'll definitely get rid of some of the surface sodium, but they have been cooked, um, you know, with that, uh, sodium and they've definitely been, uh, absorbing salt basically as it goes. So, um, that would be my suggestion is if you're getting canned beans, which I use all the time, I do dry as well, but sometimes in a pinch you just gotta grab that can of beans. Um, and so the unsalted variety is definitely the way to go.
