Question:

I love all types of kitchen gadgets but what kitchen gadgets would you say every home chef or regular chef must have?

— Toni Crawford

Answer:

So I'm usually a big proponent of just saying, you know, uh, really knives cutting boards, saw tape in your stock pot, you know, are pretty much like the all the things you really need. A peeler would be nice too. Um, you know, as far as gadgets go, there's all kinds of different gadgets out there. And my kind of rule of thumb on gadgets is that I have to use them regularly enough to be able to warrant the space for them. Um, I used to have a much smaller kitchen than I do now and that kitchen helped me realize that, um, I need to be able to, you know, just kind of keep things in check. Uh, you know, there are certain items that might um, be cool, uh, you know, in that one situation, but if you're only gonna use it every six months, you have to think about if you're going to keep that. Now there are things like, you know, I don't know, like a spiralizer, which are really fun. I actually own a spiralizer, but I don't use it a ton, right? So it ends up being in a storage space downstairs. So when I need it, I can get it out. But, um, the regular gadgets that I use on the regular basis are going to be a tea kettle heats hot water so I can get, um, water heated quicker. Um, I do have like an instant pott, but I don't really use it that much. Um, yeah, you know, I'm pretty non fancy when it comes to equipment I guess I do have a KitchenAid mixer that I'll use that I'll make fresh pasta with, and we'll do different baking things and projects with those. Um, I use a Kamal, which is basically, uh, it heats tortillas on the back of my stove and it pretty much lives there all the time. Um, for, to do breakfast tacos in the morning for the kids, um, or, you know, um, other, you know, taco nights and stuff like that. Um, I'm trying to think of anything else. There's not really a whole lot, uh, of gadgetry that I, oh, I guess a Vitamix, you know, of Vitamix and a food processor are two things that were, I used very regularly in, um, catering as well too. So those would probably be kind of the list there. And that's again, you know, kind of depending on what you're doing and what kind of dishes you're making, that's probably the extended list, you know, so, um, a food processor, a good, a high powered blender, um, maybe a KitchenAid mixer if you're doing a lot of baking or if you're making pasta. Um, a tortilla press is always good if you're making tortillas a lot. Um, and then some of the optional ones would be like the, you know, Instapot, which you could do anything in Instapot you could do in a pot as well too.
