Question:
I am stuck on what knife to get. Can you share any advice?
— Patty MOLZEN
Answer:
The best advice I can give you, Patty, is to find what feels best in your hand. I think everybody, uh, has different preferences on knives and they should because all of our hands are different. So if you can go to a place where you can have the hand, the knife in your hand, I do can. Um, there's, um, it's not the container store, it's the, uh, there's a couple stores that special like have knives that you can just test out there as well too. They're in malls a lot. I can't think of what they're called right now, but, um, um, and they will do cooking demos and stuff like that, but they, if you find a place that has a lot of knife varieties, usually you can, uh, hold them in your hand to see which one works best for you. Um, now put, put them down on a cutting board if you can to be able to see what it'll feel like as you hold them. Should be pretty balanced in your hand as well too. Uh, I also like to get, um, one where the tongue is actually going through the whole handle as well. So you should see a middle strip going through the whole thing with two little pins on the side to be able to hold it that way the knife doesn't break off right at the end here when you're chopping things, it goes through the entire thing as well too. So, um, but really over anything else, the way it feels on your hand is probably the best way to pick out a, a good chef knife, right,
