Question:
Besides making graham crackers when would you toast flour? How long does it usually take?
— Deborah Goodman
Answer:
So you can toast your flour in any application where you want deeper flavor, and you don't mind the deeper color. So it can be done with any cookies or quick breads or, um, again, most anything else. And, um, you know, you, you'll put the flour on a sheet pan and, uh, put that in your oven. How long does it take? You know, it, it'll depend on the quantity of flour. Okay? Now, it can also depend on, on the heat setting of your oven, of course, um, start out at, you know, 300 degrees or so. Um, and, uh, you can even go a little bit less than that, and then you'll periodically wanna move that around, um, to even out the, the browning of the flour. Okay? But, um, uh, toasting of flour is also a nice way to mask the beanies of chickpea flour, right? Or basin, uh, that is used, uh, in a lot of cooking. It, it's a, it's a staple in the Indian kitchen, um, but can be used, uh, in a lot of ways as a gluten-free flour. But, uh, it can, uh, otherwise taste beanie. So toasting can help mask some of that. But otherwise, again, you can u use this, uh, technique for anything where you want deeper flavor and you don't mind the additional color.
