Question:
What are the 3 best tips on getting people to eat more vegetables and what have you seen as failure with good intentions in your patients / students in this regard?
— ingrid ortega
Answer:
Uh, yeah, to eat more vegetables. I mean, failure comes from not appreciating number one, that people have different abilities to taste bitterness and they have different palates. So when one person thinks something is bitter and the other person doesn't and then there becomes this argument and that, you know, they're making it up kind of thing. That's the number one fight I've seen when trying to get individuals to eat more vegetables, especially around, um, children, teens, right? We all have different palettes and we need to respect that of one another. So when we're trying to encourage others to eat more vegetables, again, cooking techniques is my number one asset. I started the talk with that and I'm gonna end it with that too. Um, really using, um, different types of culinary techniques and also allowing that individual to choose one of hundreds of different types of vegetables. They don't have to like the one I like, they can like the one they like and it's just to keep trying slowly over time. The second one is they want someone to like a vegetable too fast. And as you learn, it can take up to a dozen attempts to like a vegetable.
