Question:

Are apples sprayed with pesticides? And does removing an apple's skin make them healthier?

— ly brod

Answer:

Well, apples are definitely sprayed with a number of pesticides, not organic apples. And then, you know, there is, there are organic apples and then there's something in between and then there are non-organic apples and the list of pesticides is huge. Uh, so if I were buying apples that were non-organic, I would wash them really well. There are a couple of different methods and um, people seem to be attached to their own, but I start with cool running water and I put the apples into a bowl of water if with non-organic fruit, some people talk about a little bit of white vinegar, other people say baking soda will help. So in that case, I would take the, if you're buying apples that you know have been sprayed with pesticides, I would still wash them very thoroughly and then probably take the skin off. So you know, it's, since there's more fiber, there's a lot of fiber in the skin, you're losing that. But there's still plenty of fiber in the uh, in the apple.
