Question:

Can you please recommend brands of glass freezer storage containers that will prevent freezer burn?

— Sue Michaels

Answer:

I have those same kind of glass containers for Tupperware and it seems like once a month one of those little tabs breaks off the side and I'm, instead of having four clampdowns, I have three. Um, you know, so, uh, I can't give you a brand that's like better than any other ones. I think the ones that I have are like a Rubbermaid or something like that. I've gotten a few different varieties from different places like that. Um, you know, one of the things I can tell you that I've found to be able to prevent freezer burn is I'll actually put, uh, products into like, um, like a freezer, uh, Ziploc or um, you know, a storage bag like that that will, uh, you know, has a zip basically on it. Um, and that helps prevent freezer burn really well just make sure that you get as much of the air outta that product as possible. Um, and then if I'm really trying to do it, I'll actually put that bag inside of that glass container and put the lid on as well too. Is it a hundred percent guarantee? Absolutely not. Um, sometimes you will still get that freezer burn, but um, for someone like me in the, in Wisconsin when I'm trying to, you know, preserve things that have been taken from the spring and the summer, um, into the winter months, uh, I have to figure out how to do that and that's typically what I'm going to do is put them into um, uh, a freezer bag and then I might actually put them inside the glass container as well too. Now does it have to be glass if you're putting it already in plastic? No, it doesn't. You could totally do it in the, in a plastic container as well. Just make sure that it has a seal around the top and it seals well, that is a problem if one of those little tabs breaks off 'cause you don't get as well, uh, uh, as good of a steel on the outside of that as well too. So, um, yeah, so that's basically my solution for you.
