Question:

Can I substitute maple syrup for honey in recipes? Would it be a 1:1 replacement??

— Ellen Kumler

Answer:

The general response here is, yes, you can. And the, and the ratio would be one to one or something very close to that. Both of them are liquid sweeteners, and so the substitution is usually pretty easy. Okay. In that respect, it becomes a, a little trickier if you're doing dry in place of a, a liquid sweetener. And in terms of, of the ratio of, of replacement, you know, it, it really comes down to your preference, because honeys have different flavor profiles and, and therefore, sweetness comes through in different ways sometimes. And maple syrup, um, in my experience, a way, uh, can be very similar, right? Where there are some different flavor intensities and, uh, flavor can be perceived in, in, uh, slightly different ways. But maple syrup is pretty sweet, and, uh, honey is pretty sweet. And therefore, I'm saying as a, as a place to start, use the one-to-one ratio. But, uh, feel free to really think about your end product, and if you wanna make adjustments from there, you know, feel free.
