What is the best way to store flours so they stay fresh longer?
Answer
So generally, a cooler temperature is gonna bring more stability to the flour, especially if it's a whole grain flour, you know, which has more of the, the fats and, uh, items that are susceptible to spoilage. So, uh, again, whole grains, whole and whole grain flowers will have relatively shorter shelf lives than their refined counterparts. So if you have a cool place, and whether it's downstairs or, you know, in the refrigerator or someplace else, consider those places for the longest shelf life, you know, the, the greatest shelf stability. The other thing to keep in mind is consider smaller pack sizes and, uh, to, to help you work through that quantity before it has a chance of going rancid or spoiling. Okay? Um, you know, here at at home we'll buy masa, uh, in a 50 pound bag because we'd really like tortillas. Um, but there are some other things that we'll buy in more reasonable five or 10 pound packages. So, you know, just think about your usage rate versus your storage conditions and choose, you know, um, the appropriately. And you can always try to look for these items in the bulk section of some grocery stores, in which case you can buy whatever quantity you want.
