Question:
What are the best knives to use?
— Yolanda Love-Willis
Answer:
We get this question quite often, Yolanda, and I always tell people the best knife is the one that feels best in your hand. So what I recommend is going to a store that sells knives. You can go to, you know, like a Williams Sonoma or like a, um, Sheila Tabla or something like that where they actually have knives out for people to, um, test out and, um, hold each one in your hand and see what it feels like in your hand. I think it's a really good way to be able to get a basis for that. Now, if you're like at a, you know, near a big box store or something like that, like a Walmart or a Target, they usually have some of those in their, um, their home sections where the knife is usually packaged, but you can feel the handle on it. That's another great way to be able to kind of judge on that as well too. Um, so that's probably my best bet to be able to tell you I'm the best knives to use is the one that's most comfortable for you in your hand. Now, every chef, every instructor here will tell you probably a different knife that they use. Um, I use a, a lot of different varieties of knives. Um, myself, uh, at home I use wol. When I'm doing cooking jobs, I'm using shun knives. Um, you know, I'll use Mercer knives as well too. So it really kind of depends just on the situational use for it, um, you know, and kind of what feels best to you.
