Question:

Besides Rouxbe, are there other online cooking schools, youtube videos or platforms that can turn a homemaker into a chef?

— Ilana Lauer

Answer:

So, um, I don't know what other folks are doing, you know, in terms of, you know, online cooking schools. Uh, I'll leave that, um, field work to you. Uh, in terms of YouTube, I've certainly seen a lot of videos on YouTube. I use YouTube myself from time to time. And, uh, the, you, you know, you know what's on YouTube. There's, uh, millions and millions of, uh, uh, videos, uh, and, and very interesting, uh, content as well. The challenge with using YouTube, and this is, uh, feedback from a number of our students and graduates now, uh, who have shared their experience starting out on YouTube before they came to Rouxbe. And that is that the content, uh, isn't curated at all. And there's no, you know, prescribed sequence. You know, our courses are created in a logical sequence that builds upon, uh, you know, the previous content in. And, um, you know, this is, uh, sort of experience that we bring from, you know, our, uh, our, our pre Rouxbe experience in many other culinary schools on ground around the country and the world where we have studied and taught. And so there's some rhyme and reason as educators, right? When we build a course, uh, as to its sequence. And so you don't get that when you surf YouTube. That's, that's the big challenge if you're looking for that sort of structure. Um, I mean, otherwise, uh, you know, you can, uh, have fun and, um, take a look at the, the varied content out there. Okay? Um, you know, I would also say that another difference that you're gonna find, and a and a big difference is that, you know, at, at Rouxbe, uh, we are a bunch of educators. We're chefs and we're educators. And so, you know, we bring in, uh, a, a, uh, you know, a perspective of, um, pedagogy, or some people would say andragogy for the adult learner when it comes to building our courses. Whereas if you look at YouTube, you've got folks that are just capturing video of something and putting it up on the YouTube platform. And so there's not necessarily an educational approach, angle, explanation, you know, and assessment to what it is that you're experiencing. All right? So a little insight there, a little, little overview, and, uh, hopefully that, uh, provides some satisfaction.
