Question:
Can you make any suggestions for increasing take-rates of healthy food?
— Bailey Taber
Answer:
I mean I basically have studied this for the past 30 years and it's not about giving people more information, right? So higher ed, you can tell you, you can tell people, gee, you're blue in the face. When I set up the weight and wellness center and health focus groups, I would just get angry responses from individuals that had at least 50 pounds to lose. Like stop telling me, I dunno, the difference between an apple and a bag of potato chips. So really what it is to me, what the missing link is really about connection, and it's about honoring where a person is and doing so in a very specific delivery of that information. So that's what I spent my career studying. So instead of saying eat a healthy diet and asking you to do make 220 decisions with 160 recommendations, no one's gonna be able to follow it and no one is following it. But if I say to you, what do you wanna work on right now? Or my patient or an individual, do you wanna just work on your fat intake right now for let's give it a month and or would you wanna work on your treat intake? Let's give it a month. And you do slow and steady, then you're gonna see the sustainability. And we don't eat. When we look at how we came into this planet however many years ago that was, and how we came together as tribes and villages and families, if we take the connection piece out of food, if we continue to look at just the science of food, we're missing the heartbeat of dietary change.
