Question:

How do you best dice an onion?

— Shereen Lokeman

Answer:

This is, uh, a bigger question, and I'm gonna start my answer by saying, take a look at one of our courses, uh, and, uh, in our courses, we have very nice, uh, clear, easy to follow, logical, and, and, uh, safe, uh, video lessons that'll walk you through the cutting of onions and a number of other things based upon size and shape. Okay? But very quickly, when it comes to an onion, there are a couple of approaches. I mean, one, uh, you gotta peel it, you gotta cut it in half and keep the root and intact because that holds all the layers together. Uh, and then you can move into cutting it into whatever orientation or size that you'd like. So, for example, if you're slicing it, you're gonna hold the onion, you are gonna tuck your knuckles, so your, your knife is gonna rest upon your knuckle. You don't want fingertips sticking out because of the risk of cutting fingertips. So this is an important safety point. Tuck your fingertips, the knife goes up against the knuckle, and you can just make slices. Um, if you want a dice, then you've got the, the root end out here. You're gonna make slices this way first, and then you'll rotate your blade 90 degrees, and then finish the cuts in this other orientation, and that'll result in the dice. Cut. Okay? So in a nutshell, that's the process, but again, I encourage you to take a look at one of our courses that will give you a lot more information, uh, on the subject of cutting.
