Question:
Can apprentices start at different skill levels, or do they need formal culinary education to qualify?
— Ken L
Answer:
This is the formal culinary education. No, absolutely not. You can come in as an unskilled worker and the standards that are set forth by the ACF are progressive standards through the culinary, through the culinary fundamentals quote through the lin to the certified sous chef. Yeah. So we were talking to somebody, chef David Kitchen sit, He, uh, did an apprenticeship back in 85, and he didn't go to culinary school and he gave this, uh, kind of, um, metaphor. It was, instead of culinary school, we have 30 students to one instructor. He was on the job training with one apprentice himself to one chef, and he learned a lot quicker. And within five years, he was an executive chef position. So you don't need formal culinary education. If you're in the kitchen monitored by an A mentor following these standards and competencies. You can get your education, uh, without necessarily going to culinary school.
