Question:
What's the best way to store ginger root and turmeric root?
— Diane Dankert
Answer:
Well, I would imagine there are a few different good ways to do it, kinda depending on your preference and the situation and your, uh, surroundings. But I'll tell you what I do. We buy both of those items, uh, you know, fresh and, uh, in a pretty good size quantity. So I will clean them up, basically just rinse them of any loose dirt that might be adhering to the surface, and then I'll cut them into pieces that are practical for us. And that's usually an inch or so long, and then that goes into the freezer, and then I'm able to pull out pieces of ginger and turmeric, and I will grate it on a microplane, and then that goes into cha ha or chai in the morning, or any of the cooking that we might be doing. And I just keep the skin on as well. Um, there's no need to remove the skin, and it certainly doesn't bother me, but of course, if you prefer, you can take the time to do that. Um, but that's the way that I do it. Uh, give that a try and see if that might work for you.
