— Betty Norvell

Answer:

Alright, so, uh, you know, from my own personal experience, do you want me to tackle this one, Char, or do you have a quick Answer for it? Um, I, I have a, a easy, practical way, but I think it's good to hear both sides of the coin, so to speak. Why don't you give it a start, ladies first, Give yourself an hourly weight, an hourly rate of what you would, would pay yourself. Uh, if you spend $20 for ingredients, you're going to charge $40 for the ingredients because you wanna profit on the ingredients that you bought. Uh, you're gonna include shopping time, which is an hour. Well, for me it's an hour, uh, travel time to and from, which is an hour prep time, which might be two hours. And teaching time, which is two hours. So you have accumulated, uh, I think six hours. So you would multiply six times 25, which is 150, I believe. And so I charge for a full class. So if I'm teaching in Timbuktu, they set the rate for the, for what a participant will pay. A lot of my classes are free, and, uh, they don't pay anything. But an interesting thing happened to me last week, somebody who comes to my high end classes where they spend $75 a class, uh, they came to my free class and they were like, oh, we should have just been coming here. So I do a lot of pro bono classes so that I can pay for, uh, I, I do the, the, these charge classes. I do them so that I can pay for ingredients when I do pro bono classes. Give yourself an hourly rate and itemize everything that it is that you do. So, um, mm-hmm. When I first started out as a new graduate at Rouxbe and I thought I was charging a lot of money, I would charge $125 for a group class. And, uh, came to learn out that when you put six to 10 hours of putting something together, uh, that you really had to, to treat yourself, you have to treat yourself fairly so that you don't become resentful with something that you really love to do. So if anybody wants to talk to me offline, I'm happy to share some other tid tidbits.
