Question:

What is Erythritol? Is it safe to use as a sweetener?

— Hermela A Teferra

Answer:

I am just going to walk over here and get my box of sweeteners that I don't use and erythritol is one of them erythritol is in everything and it is one of the sugars that doesn't get digested. So I know that there are people who do like it. It is considered Gras which means generally regarded as safe. It is produced by fermenting the glucose in cornstarch and has 70% of the sugar. But very few calories. It is considered to have fewer digestive side effects and sugar alcohols in general but it depends it depends on your system. So is it safe to use? Yes, it is on the market as a safe sweetener, but these are not sugars. This is not a class of sugar that I particularly use although I certainly have it. I have it all over the place.
