Question:
Is monkfruit sweetener considered plant based?
— Melissa Vermey
Answer:
Ah, so this is kind of related to the earlier question right around the Vegan Cooking and Whole Food plant-based cooking and so on and so forth, you know monk fruit comes from a tree right from a plant. So yes, it is plant-based now. The monk fruit sweetener that we that I typically see in the US is a highly refined powdery substance. Okay, that's not whole food. Right? It's not an example of a whole food, but it's certainly plant-based. So whether you want to use that or not as totally up to you right just depends on what sort of food, you know, ethic you want to develop around the food that you eat. Okay. Now if you're dealing with monk fruit the fruit straight off of the tree then that's going to be a whole food. and so we have a different conversation. Okay, and this is going to be true of you know other ingredients, right? Yeah. I mean you get to call the shots on whether you want to you know, eat the product or not. Okay, and and a certain if it comes from a plant is plant-based, but we had this other filter or this next question of How processed is it? How refined is it? And do I want that to fit into my plant-based? philosophy around food Okay, I'll leave that to you. Thank you.
