Question:
How can you tell if mushrooms are still edible?
— Annette Moore
Answer:
You know most mushrooms as they start to. Break down on you are going to develop spots of discoloration spots are going to be different from what the mushroom started out looking like. So a white mushroom will start to develop gray spots, for example And their texture will start to break down for the most part and you'll get wet soft spots and that usually goes hand in hand with the discoloration. And so you it's pretty easy to see I think at that point but yeah, I mean otherwise mushrooms can be pretty hearty hearty items. They can take a lick in and instill, you know be good after several days or even a matter of weeks and you know, certainly if you have an abundance of mushrooms, if you're a forager, for example, then consider drying them to extend the shelf life. And then you can reohydrate them or you can grind them into a powder of a coarseness that you desire and you'll have that intensity of flavor to add to soups and stews and sauces and other applications. Thank you.
