Question:

Do you have any recommendations on the best uses of freezer space?

— Jacqueline Osborn

Answer:

Well, you know, I think having a limited freezer space is perfect. Otherwise, there's a real tendency to just stick stuff in the freezer and forget about it. And you know, I I say that with experience not only you know from home cooking but even in restaurants. Where it's not uncommon to say, oh, hey, you know, I I hate to throw this away. I'll use it some other time and we stick it in the freezer only to throw all those things away during that annual freezer clean out time and I've seen that so many times that I mean, I understand that using a freezer does require a certain discipline in a certain method to the madness and you know, my quick thought is for you to consider freezing items that are of greatest value to you and that take you know a time to make a lot of effort and time to make so that in other words you're getting the greatest benefit from that item when you quickly pull it out of the freezer defrost it and use it, right you're saving all of that time and effort that went into that that finished product. Um, and then also we have to use the things in the freezer, right? It's not a one-way Journey. It's got to be around trip. Okay, and we should label and and date products and you know, whether it's a weakest or a month this past or some other interval. Start pulling it out and start using those things to prepare your meals. And so you create a cycle right are these things going in and these things coming out and that's important because things in the freezer declined in quality anything that we hang on to in the food world is going to decline in quality at some point, you know, aside from a small percentage of wines that may improve for some period of time before they start to decline most food items will decline almost immediately. So it's a good practice to use those things in a relatively short period of time anyway, okay, so, please keep those in mind as you set up a system where things go in and then they come out okay and think about value the value of your time and effort and how you capture that in the freezer. Thank you.
