Question:

Do you recommend using one of the vegan protein powders for use in smoothies?

— Paul Shook

Answer:

I'm not worried about protein. I I worry people are getting too much protein. I don't like protein powders. I don't you don't need them, you know at best. You don't need them at worst. Is it too many I mean amino acids probably so it I would just say if you're not getting full from a smoothie that's because it's all digested for you and it's hard to get fullness smoothie. So I would just say eat food instead. So I would recommend instead of a smoothie. If you're not full if that's the reason if that's the reason you're asking if you're not full then out you could add nuts and seeds to it or you could just eat your eat the food instead. That'll keep you full if you really want to stick to a smoothie you can add a nut butter to there or you could you know. That'll help you with satiety. But if you're just worried about getting enough protein don't worry about getting enough protein just eat your one and a half cups of legumes a day eat your nuts and seeds eat a wide variety of whole plant Foods. You're gonna get just the right not too much of the essential amino acids, even my athlete clients. I don't usually recommend protein powders. It's only people that really can't get enough nutrition. The people that I would recommend sometimes really infrequently approaching powder is someone like a an athlete that really can't get enough calories into their diet because I need four or five six thousand calories a day. Those are not most athletes, by the way or people that are not have are having problems with digestion absorption people severe GI problems IBD flare up stuff like that or people like elderly I work with a lot of elderly people that just can't chew they have dentition issues or they're just not able to get in enough calories. That's when I would recommend something like, you know, a protein base smoothie and not even a lot of protein just enough to get enough for the day meaning they're not able to get it from their food, but if you're able to then you're able to eat food don't about it.
