Question:

Chef Char, can you share your WFPB story?

Answer:

I do wanna just share a little story for a second. So here's my book, and you're probably saying, yeah, if you've been plant-based for 14 years, how come this book is in such pristine condition? So, a while ago, a friend, uh, was diagnosed with, uh, coronary artery disease, and she was all gung-ho and wanted to borrow a few books. And I gave her my original Prevent Reverse Heart Disease cookbook that had been autographed by Rip Essel, Jane Essel and Essel and Dr. Essel. And all of a sudden one day I thought, oh, you know, I need to get my book back. And what turned out was that it got sold at a garage sale. So, um, rather than become apoplectic, which I was for about seven seconds, I, uh, bought a book and I wrote a note and sent it to the Esselstyn's. And a few weeks ago got the, uh, updated version of, uh, my Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease book by Dr. Esselstyn with Recipes by Anne. So the moral of the story is no one is going to get this book. I will not let anyone part of it. So, uh, I think you did a really good job there, Peggy listing, um, the people who we, uh, so admire and, you know, um, the list that Peggy gave is sort of like the foundation of, or the who's who of the early days of the plant-based movement. And now when you look at it, there are people, um, who have admired in and respected the work of those before them. And I'm gonna give one shout out to, um, Dr. Robert Hossfeld from Montefiore Hospital. And if I have ever corrected your, uh, or reviewed rather your, uh, hospital assignment, I always make mention of him because a dozen years ago, he started showing the film Forks Over Knives in the coronary care unit of his hospital, as well as implementing a plant-based diet. So I think there's a nice trickle down that goes on, and, uh, if this works for you, as they say, uh, work it if, work it, if it works.
