Question:

Can you offer some suggestions on salt replacements? Maybe some sources for flavourful low salt diets?

— Gabriela Terrazas

Answer:

The dash diet was created. Um, well the second reason it was created for low sodium, it was to bring down blood pressure and what we thought was due to the salt was actually due to we didn't have enough potassium in our diet. I know I'm going off on a tangent, I have to do this. So fruits and vegetables helps to bring down the, um, the blood pressure. And so then you don't have to increase rate of getting heart disease and people that are have a heart issue or told to go on a low salt diet and that's what the dash diet's all about. So there's a lot of cookbooks and recipe books and sites out there about the dash diet. And we, I had just spoken about how to add a lot more flavorful elements to your dish so that you're not relying on low salt. Um, you can have a robust diet and a, a very varied diet and not have to rely on salt to flavor it.
