Question:

I am new to the plant based diet, How do I let others know this diet is healthier for you?

— Maria Miller

Answer:

So, slippery slope there, Maria. Um, it's, uh, as being as plant-based, being plant-based, as long as I have, uh, one thing you learn is you don't want to be preachy. And what I mean by that is you don't wanna tell people, Hey, I'm on a plant-based diet. It's healthy. You should do this too. Um, too much, right? It's great to tell people that the benefits of plant-based diet, and I'm getting this and this and this and this, but you don't wanna directly tell people, you should do this because I'm doing this as well. Um, so that being said, um, if people are asking you about, Hey, like, you look great, I see that you've done this plant-based diet, like what's the difference here? Um, some great talking points to talk about and how a a plant-based diet is healthier for you is the cholesterol is just non-existent. Um, can lower your cholesterol if you've been eating meats for a long time. Um, you know, so having that as kind of a starter, your blood pressure can go down. Um, there are all kinds of healthy things that happen out of eating a whole food plant-based diet as well. You'll find that you get a lot more energy, you get a lot, um, you know, if you're getting your sleep as well, you're actually gonna have a lot of energy with that, that as well too. But you'll see that your body is going to work a little bit better on a plant-based diet too. Now, there are all kinds of different medical claims out there that I'm not going to get into being a chef. Um, you know, I can't really answer too much into those, but there are tons and tons of studies and lots and lots of evidence about how a whole food plant-based diet is so much healthier for you than the standard American diet. Um, and you can refer to any of those. Um, you know, and there are a lot of books on the subjects. Uh, there are new ones coming out every single day. I would definitely stick to some of the books that are written by doctors instead of, um, celebrities, if you will. Um, you know, that way it's back actually based in scientific evidence to be able to talk about how the diet is healthier for you. Um, so I would kind of go down those couple avenues and that with the caveat is, um, you know, it's great to be plant-based, but you don't want to be, um, too pushy about being on the plant-based diet to other people who might not be as open to it. Um, so that being said, uh, I think that there's a lot of stuff out there that you'll be able to find, um, that will show you that plant-based diets are so beneficial for your health.
