Question:

Can you share some guidance for cooking rice and grains in instant pot?

— Rosie AIELLO

Answer:

I don't typically use an Instapot to cook my rice, um, but I do know that there's a setting on it. I have an Instapot, I've never used it to cook rice that I can remember. I might have for just like a peel off or something. But, um, you know, basically for any kind of, 'cause I do use a rice cooker every very soft. And I have a, a Japanese rice cooker for sushi rice. And, um, I think one of the key components to that is to be able to rinse your rice before, uh, putting into it to, to just turn into a globby mess. So what I typically will do is I will, um, put my rice into a bowl, put cold water into it, and then agitate a little bit until the water gets a little cloudy and then dump that water off and then do it again. Um, and then let the water sit for about five minutes, um, into that, dump it off one more time and then put it into the rice cooker, uh, or your Instacart Instapot in this, um, case. And then add the, uh, directing amount of water to be able to go with that. So, um, you know, as far as rice goes, that's, you know, a great way to do it because you can literally just set it and forget it. More often than not, I find myself making rice on a stove top in, um, you know, in a pan, which is kind of the, uh, you know, it's old school, but it works for me and it, uh, it's pretty quick to be able to do. So. Um, you know, other grains in the Insta pot, kind of the same thing. It's a nice thing that you can just kind of set something, forget it, and you get a nice musical tone telling you that, oh, my rice is done or my grains are done. Um, so yeah, just, uh, typically, you know, you wanna follow the directions that either came with it or there are lots of other, um, you know, for grains, there are lots of recipes that you can just Google out there to be able to find it. But do for rice, you just wanna make sure that you're treating it before putting it in there so it doesn't just turn into a big cake at the bottom of your Insta pot.
