Question:

Which root vegetables are convenient for growing inside a small condo and what kind of lighting is needed?

— Debarah Lewis

Answer:

I would say beets carrots radishes. Relatively short growing Seasons radishes only 18 days or so for some of the you know, this the smaller ones like these ones little Cherry Valley radishes or the French breakfast radishes. They grow pretty well in all kinds of soil as well. So the soil that you can get like potting soil would probably work nutrient-wise density wise for radishes carrots and beets. The thing about root vegetables. Is that often they take quite some time to grow so In sort of the real estate and effort invested for the return would be pretty low. If you're dealing with something like a potato or something with a very lengthy growing season rutabagas long growing turnips Etc. Celery root celery roots like 110 days, I believe. as opposed to a beet which is 45 days as opposed to a radish which is 18 some carrots go up to 75 days, but there's some that are as low as 50 in terms of typical growing season. So there you go. That would be my recommendation on that also because the beet, radishes and carrots also give you greens that are usable. So you're really maximizing the output plus they're delicious and they're really great and they're really rewarding when they're so young and fresh and tender and picked and put into a pan. They're really really delicious that way so that's what I would say.
