Question:

How do you wash your vegetables?

— Sandra Bates

Answer:

What I'll typically do is I will basically get water in the sink and I'll fill up my sink on part of it and I will lightly rub the outside of the vegetables with my hands. Be able to get them off if it is something that's you know. Kinda depends on the vegetable too, right? So like berries, I would do on a colander. So even if I'm getting organic berries. I'll put them in a colander or a strainer and wash them off under cold water. If I'm doing things like apples or zucchini and peppers and stuff like that. I'll fill up my sink a little bit with cold water and then hand kind of wipe them all down and put them on the counters for those some things like potatoes. It's good to use like a brush on same with mushrooms. I'll typically use a brush on mushrooms. Typically dry. You know, I'm not gonna wash them so much on those depending if I know where I got them from I'm not a huge fan of washing mushrooms with water unless you you wash them and then immediately cook them. It's kind of a different thing and people have different opinions on that. So you might hear different versions of that. And then greens. I'm typically going to wash right beforehand. I'm going to wash them basically, you know in the sink rub them down by hand and then dry them off with a towel or we used to have a spinner thing. But I use a tall method probably more often than anything else to be able to drive greens. And that's the same thing with herbs too. But usually after I wash the herbs, I'll wrap them in a damp paper towel and keep them for the fridge in some sort of kind of open-aired container and they like very containers and Herb containers like that.
