Question:

I find it difficult to get enough protein eating plant-based. What suggestions do you have besides beans and lentils?

— Kay Rutledge

Answer:

That's interesting because I don't know many people that have a problem getting protein when they're eating plant-based unless you need a lot more protein than normal people because eating a plant-based diets, you typically get a lot of protein just from eating the vegetables. There's more protein and vegetables than people think and it's always kind of funny. That's the first question. Like, how do you get your protein when people find out that your plant-based, you know, like gorillas and rhinoceros are plant-based and they get plenty of protein but If you're looking to get more and you know that you need more Beyond beings and lentils, there are a lot of different ways. You know, I guess tofu would be in the bean area but quinoa is actually a great area for protein and you might be somebody who works out a lot. I used to work with a lot of plant-based Fitness people that were, you know, doing a lot of lifting and their body builders and stuff like that and they used to do like whey protein shakes and stuff. So I came up with a formula or it was basically a quinoa protein shake so they put a bunch of vegetables and a little almond milk into it. Actually. They usually did a soy milk, but you could do the almond milk instead and then blend up the quinoa into it as well and it's a huge huge amount of protein. So if you're working out a lot that protein actually is something you need to be able to kind of get in there to build the mass that they're looking for as well. So that might be a good option as well. So just be on the beans and lentils a quinoa is a huge protein builder as well, but by and Take a look at how much protein you're getting on your vegetables. You can actually look just Google it and say like how much you know and do a typical meal that you do like a half a cup of broccoli and half a cup of rice and you know, whatever the other ingredients are and see how much protein and all adds up to. It'll probably shocked at how much protein you're getting out of it and what the recommended amount of protein for days for somebody most, you know, plant-based people get plenty of protein just for meeting the vegetables. But the quinoa thing is a good trick if you're looking to get a lot more protein if you're building muscle.
