Question:

What is the secret to making plant-based eating be a true way of life? Is it an ah-ha moment, enough good recipes, a health scare?

— Teri Blouin

Answer:

I know a lot of people that have gone through the same transformation and it's it's okay to be able to fall out and get back up again. You know, it's It's definitely different for a lot of people to make it happen what the way I did it was I worked in increments, you know, I went into a plant-based lifestyle just out of high school when I went into college and I took it in steps. So the first step was kind of easy for me. I didn't eat a lot of fish at the time. So I eliminated fish at first and then like a month or two later. I eliminated chicken and then I eliminated red meats. And then I went on to like the you know, like gluten or not gluten but gelatin and stuff like that that were like things you don't see, you know all the time as Meats. So I made those progresses slowly. I did it every couple months to be able to make that progression and I found what I would miss them less and less the longer. I did it, you know, so that's a good way to be able to start it is to be able to do it in increments to be able to make it happen. Another way is to if you have a dish that you're like, oh I just love this and I can't give this up and I keep going back to it. That's the reason I'm not going to play it based is to think an alternative for it. You know, that's the impossible Beyond Burger thing. That's like their bread and butter. Nope intended, but that's why they try to doing a lot of people just like I can't go without a burger but I do want to be you know better for the environment and I need to lower my cholesterol. So that's the solution that they chose for it is The Impossible Burger good for you. Definitely not it's super processed and full of all kinds of not creating ingredients, but there's no cholesterol on it. Right? So and there's no Animal product in it. So they're achieving their goal of lowering their cholesterol and also, you know being healthier for the environment. So, you know, if you have that dish you're looking for Look for a recipe. It's an alternative for it. It might not be already created for you. But something like the crab cake or you know, having the shredded mushrooms as the chicken might be a great alternative to be able to look for the texture and then look for inventive ways to recreate the flavors too. So, I think that's a couple good ways to be able to start it and be easy on yourself. It's it's a lifelong journey and you know, making things like this or commitments and they're typically lifelong commitments of how you're making, you know, a lifestyle change. I'm not a big fan of diets because a diet something you start and you stop you know, so when you're done with it, you go back to the way you were and you pretty much end up the same where you were or worse. So making a lifestyle change makes it's a big deal. So be easy on yourself and make the change as you can.
