Question:

I want to learn about cooking tempeh. The protein content interests me so I want to be able to enjoy it.?

— Patricia Olson

Answer:

That's great tempeh is a wonderful protein source to be able to use it's a little less processed than tofu. So you can actually see the actual soybeans in it. Has a little bit different nutritional content to it, but it's wonderful, like actually love to be able to kind of mix and match tempeh and tofu depending on what I'm making one of the best tips I can give you for cooking tempeh is to boil it first. Actually. Oh tempeh has kind of a funky little flavor to it just from the process is used to be able to make it. So I was tell people to just get a saute panel and put water into it and drop the Tempe into it to be able to boil boil it first take it back out and then you can just Pat it dry with a towel. And then then I basically start to work with it now. I'll do it in a myriad of different ways from baking it to be able to make you know, like a bacon style flavor for like BLTs or TLT if you were well at Tempe a list of tomato, and I've also you know, I just made it the other night as a curry dish that literally just sauteed it and like a Standard, you know Americanized yellow curry, you know powder and then did a dish kind of around that as well. When I was working with schools Chef. Ann Foundation actually came up with this dish called the crazy curry ball, and it was for school dish. So it was just that yellow curry pepper and salt and we did that kind of sauteed out and you take out that mix and then you put in you just want to saute onions. We did broccoli with it snow peas. Um, I'm trying to figure what else I think those kind of it and then you put the tempeh back in and then cover it with coconut milk and then add a little bit more of your Curry and serve it of a rice. That's so so good. My kids actually love that dish. They'll just pick out the temp a pieces and eat it piece by piece because it's so tasty. So yeah cooking with Tempe one of my recommendations always it's just to be able to boil the Tempe first and then start to use it as you want. You can also crumble it into different, you know things if you want to make into like a sloppy joe kind of a mix or something like that too, but baking is probably one of my favorite ways to do it or do a sauté on it. So I hope that helps Patricia.
