Question:

How do you properly clean vegetables?

— Lisa Stephenson

Answer:

Well that depends on the vegetable. Um, you know water is really the best easy answer to say though. You know, what I always tell people is, you know, just water is the best way to be able to do it before you're prepping your vegetables. You know, you just want to be able to run, you know, the vegetables underwater use your hands to be able to wipe them off if it's something like I don't know mushrooms, there's brushes you can use to be able to get some of the dirt off enough to run them on our water. There's a debate on mushrooms and water which if you do use water if you're not going to my consensus is you don't use water on mushrooms until right before you use them and you dry them off really well. Um, but use that brush beforehand, you know certain things like berries using a strainer and really, you know, rinsing them really well to be able to get in into all crevices and cracks and with broccoli. Sometimes I'll fill up a bowl or a sink with water and submerge things into it like spinach or green. Sometimes I'll do that and then push down on the top of the spinach to be able to make sure all the dirt settles down to the bottom. On something like that our apples and oranges are great way to be able to do that too where you can wash off the wax that's on the outside of those by submerging them in. You know, it's the lukewarm Wick liquid at the same time. But water is always the best thing I say some people as they put just a touch of vinegar into you know, the water to be able to help clean those and that works as long as you don't do too much. They don't alter the flavor of the vegetables.
